I am working on a 1988 procraft1660 With a Mercury 115 hp the serial number tag isn’t on it ,how can I order the right one, I assume the engine is also 1988 but don’t know for sure?
Is it a inline 6 ? What is the color of the wrap or engine cover , besides black . Blue band ? Red band ? You cannot just order up a serial number . What did the previous owner tell you as far as the year of the engine goes ? Did you Google serial number location on a Mercury outboard engine ,including possible year ?
Missing numbers usually mean it was stolen at some point. Came across a garage sale that had three outboards for sale. Nice looking maby ten year old motors. No tags on any of them. I passed. Turned out they were stolen, a cop happend to stop at that sale when off duty.......
Last year they built the L6 engine was1988 . Serial number should be on the mounting bracket. Not necessarily was it stolen. They were just riveted on ,so it may have been inadvertently knocked off. I would proceed as if it's a 1988 based on info you have given us. There is a facebook page ,inline 6 Mercury outboard motor fan club. Or something like that . They will have all the info you need to get her running ot if you need any parts.
Thanks to everyone for there comments, I am going to take a pic of it ,it is a inline six and I’ll post it ,runs good now but needs water pump kit haven’t taken it apart yet.
Type error ,not tryin to order serial #, look for it so I can order the right water pump kit ,Thought there may be one some where else beside the transom plate.

There is a correct way to drop the lower so that when you put it back on your FNR is lined up and works properly. Either post up on the Mercury engine forum on this site or try Google / YouTube for info.
