Good evening, all,
Creeping into the late hours to look for some assistance.
I’ve got short term possession of this 7.5 Mercury. Brother-in-law asked me to look it over as it died when he was on water and yet to run again (about 3 years ago). I lent him my 8HP Honda for now as he feeds me walleye on the regular.
Here we go.
Serial # A703674
Top – 120Psi
Bottom-120psi
Top has no spark
Bottom can jump near ¼”, weak in my opinion.
Swapped with the Sierra 18-5186, and now neither lead has spark. I did not actively try to start motor until part compatibility can be verified. Switched back to original coils and have spark again from one coil. Inspected the bad coil and sure enough the ground lead that is fed into the red casing, is burnt out and disconnected. Ill attempt a repair, but, hard to locate the one Ill need in the event repair is unsuccessful.
New coils, the 18-5186, I’m getting 0.01 on the primaries. I’ve been doing a PN search based off the no. listed on the coils now, the 339-5288-4384D and 339-5288-4684D. Im at least getting somewhere for the coil I need BUT still struggling to verified with merc that motor even exists lol.
Serial # A703674
I used the forum sticky, and some other off-us sites, to lookup this serial and I am struggling. The closest I got was 1986 8 HP which would cover from A197112 - A971338. All 7.5 serials are 7 digits, no letters. Im just stumped.
The motor is assumed to be from Canada, however bordering Detroit only footsteps away, it could be from across the pond.
