Sensor identification

I have a VP 5.7 GXI TBI engine on the intake manifold there is a sending unit on the front of the manifold with one wire going to it I recently had a no start issue I found a broken wire going to this sender when I fixed it the boat started fine trying to figure out what this is, any help would be appreciated.

It shouldn't keep it from starting. Might have just been a coincidence
