hey everyone,

well i got my first boat last year learned a lot and i mean ALOT. and now for this year i want to upgrade mainly for the family.

i have a 1975 marquis 18' tri-hull. it has a 1972 125hp evinrude starflite motor. let me say that when i bought this boat i really paid 500 for it. it had no carpet just a plywood floor no seats and a half way running motor.

spent alot of time on here asking all the experts, and about $300 later, eventually about half way through the summer i got it running right.

i also put in new carpet and built yes built two back to back seats which IMO look decent and do the job even made the with hinges for the storage space under them.

got the paint to come back to life with some elbow grease. even though it has that ugly 1970's orangish brown color.

now here is the question, given what i have described I'm asking 700 for it but i would probably take a little less does this price sound reasonable? or too much or too little.

i know you guys are experts and have bought and sold your fare share that's why I'm asking you guys.

Thanks so much for the replies.

post pics of the boat.....lets see.....

what you paid has no bearing on the selling price of the boat....remember even the trailer is worth money.

tip........you can sell a broken clean boat.......but you cant sell a running dirty one

Look on CL and in your local paper, even at marinas and see what similar boats are going for. Wintertime boat prices are low, summertime prices are way better. Wondering if you learned enough about tri hulls to not want another one?

ok so i FINALY got some pics for you to see. and about tri hulls i think they ride alot worse on wake, my aunt has a bayliner Capri and rides much smother, and i think that's the only thing that made me turn away from them.

I would start at $1K ..but you may have to be willing to hold on to it until spring has sprung.

Agreed, start a bit higher than what you want, then work down... But the important question is what boat are you planning on upgrading to?

its a 19 1/2ft 1989 glassport open bow with a 4.3 murc. looked in the motor compartment and was very clean not like he just cleaned it but like it was taken care of. the upholstery needs attention just old and dry cracking but nothing that needs immediate attention and maybe a floor by next year a little weak in spots and some wax and elbow grease on the hull. no weak spots on hull. i will ask for a water test though. he is asking 1k.

Clean it up like you want to impress the ladies with it, the motor and trailer too; Get rid of all the rust and stains. Ask for 1600 in the spring. You very well could end up with a couple hundred profit after being bargained down. Good luck.

No offense....but that boat isn't just going to "clean up" without putting more into it than would be worth. Ya gots an ugly old tri-hull with an electric shift outboard. Ask $1k and take anything over $600. Good luck with the new one. You may want to have a mechanic check out the motor and drive on the new one as even a bunch of deferred maintenance on an older I/O can really $et you back.

ask $950. you won't get many calls to start the conversation when you are at $1,000. And remember this rule of selling old cars and boats: always take the first offer.

$700 sounds right, might consider just starting there. You began with a $500 boat and that is about what you have now--a running 1972 engine is OK but no one is going to count on it being there for them for a whole season.

I'm hoping to find someone like that ya know? well i have had a few bites but that's it. it may just sit in the yard till spring that would be ok i guess. but the sooner the better.

Sounds very fair. You can't buy a lot with only $7oo and it makes for a great first boat.
