I've got a 75 ebko tri-hull with a jonnyrude 135 that runs good, not too much hassle. I am spying on an 88 Sunbird SPL 170 with a jonnyrude 88. The Sunbird is obviously newer, with a much better interior, sound hull/floor/transom. My only hang-up is the motor. I have heard that a tri-hull takes more oomph to get up and go, hence the larger motor on the Ebko. I would love to hear any opinions on the upgrade. I'm pretty familiar with the Johnson/evinrude v4 setup, so I know I can handle the power end of the equation. I guess I really don't know if the Sunbird hull is so much better of a platform. I'll be using this boat to tool around, pull a tube or kneeboard, and just kind of cruise.

Thanks to all

Buy the bird, swap the 135 to the bird, sell the ebko with the 88 on it. Problem solved.

Probably the best option. Neither manufacturer is probably "better" than the other, they were both mostly entry-level boats, and by now their condition is solely based on maintenance/care over the years. Swapping your current motor over gives you more power, but also allows you to keep an engine you already know is good and have a history of.
