I'm looking for a self tracking antenna that I have seen on several Sail boats in Florida. It will stay on the Satellite while the boat moves on anchor. This is not the expensive one from "trackv***" but a relative inexpensive unit.
Thanks

Not sure exactly what you are looking for, but most hand-held GPS units have an anchor alarm functionality.

You set the anchor alarm for the max distance you want to swing and that's about it. The units continually update from the satellites and will start beeping when you are out of the set limit.

Many are available for under $250.

Good luck

I think he is talking about, tv trackers :)

Here are some:

KVH TracVision C3 Satellite TV systom
this works with Direct TV, Dish and all other satalite companys, it cost 3199.49, and the RCA DSS Receiver (one included) is 429

There are some other kinds that are about $200,00 but you got to supply your own satalite dish (most satalite companys give them to you gree, and they onlycost 99 buccs!

Good luck!

200 buck satalite reciever for marine

THer it is on WEST MARINE
incase you cant load it I will copy and past here:
15788_f.jpg

Shakespeare's satellite/TV antenna is the portable way to receive DSS digital television signals and CD-quality sound wherever you roam. A built-in compass, level, and elevation gauge makes finding satellites easy. You'll need to provide a RCA, Uniden, Echostar, or Sony DSS receiver. Your current DSS receiver can also be used, saving the cost of buying a second box.

A completely assembled, portable satellite dish/base
Small, lightweight 18" dish
Quick and easy set-up - simplified aiming and positioning
Specially coated to prevent damage from the marine environment
Includes 15-foot cable that coils neatly into its base
Requires a subscription to DIRECTV, USSB or Dish Network
Stowed Dimensions: 7.5''H x 20'' x 24''
Raised Height: 28.5"
Weight: 12 lb
LNFB: single feed supplied
1 year warranty

I installe one of them for someone, on the lake, they workgreat the only other thing you need to buy for it is the satalite (remember most of the time its free) and a Satellite Finder - Digital Finder/Strength Meter that helps you log on to a satalite (the satalite company) when you anchor you find the satalite with the Satellite Finder - Digital Finder/Strength Meter and lock it in place. the mount keeps it lever when the boat swings and pitches and the earth moves.!
DSTM1_F.JPG
this only cost 20 buccs!

SO saying you have a TV. you spend 220.00 for every thing, plus a bill of like 20 buccs a month for serves. and your set! thats cheeper then any other unit! at most it will cost 320.00 if the providing satalite network does not include an antana! Sorry about the spelling!

Re: self tracking satellite system?

Thanks for the replys guys but the one I am looking for is aproximately 1200.00 and will track or stay locked on to the sattelite signal as a boat swings on anchor like the Trackvision but for much less. The ones I have seen used about a 6 inch pvc pipe to house the guts of the unit. I already have a spare dish but I think the one I'm looking for comes with.

Re: self tracking satellite system?

Tracking within one degree is required at anchor to get the system to work. That requires gyroscopic 3 axis servo control to track the tiny satellite in geosyncronous orbit 23,800 miles over the equator and a fairly complicated seperate receiving system. That is why Airlines don't have live TV on Board. New systems are now being installed but they are very expensive. Why not use a stationary dish atdock and DVD or VCR at sea.
