I had a 40 amp auto reset circuit breaker for my 797c2 humminbird until it broke. Wouldn't buying a package of fuses be cheaper than circuit breaker

Yup!

But breakers are more convenient. Second but, hopefully you don't have to mess with it often, or you then have some other problem to solve.

Sea ya.

Circuit breakers that big are for things like trolling motors or winches certainly not electronics. If you look at your manual it probably calls for a 3 amp fuse.

Agree with bhile. If a short circuit had developed, the wiring would have burned up (along with your boat) before the breaker popped.

I'm sure your right I assumed it was my fishfinder because after switching batteries one day on the water my radio and fishfinder stopped working I found lazy wiring while trouble shooting so I changed all connections and one rusted 40amp autoreset breaker I bought a new breaker but won't work so I ran it with no fuse (test only) and it all works.could it be the radio or left over from old anchor winch.....Yup lazy wiring thank-you . I'll check minnkota amps and run fuses in line

I would think that the breaker your taking about is at the battery and connected to at least a 8 gage wire, That is the main accessory power circuit, and any accessory's are connected in at a fuse panel. Yes you can replace it with a maxi style blade fuse I recently did the same thing.

If your running a trolling motor it should be on its own circuit with the correct gage of wire and fuse.

Something like this.
