Selectric Idle Stop Position

I have an old 1960's Evinrude Selectric control box hooked up to a 1973 Johnson and I'm unsure what the positions of the idle stop screw are. If I screw it out further will the engine shut off at lower rpm or higher? I had it running and started to mess with the idle stop and now I can't get it to start.
Thanks

if i'm not mistaken the farther in the faster it runs. you are talking about on the engine and not the control link trunion where it connects on to the side of the motor.

Screwing it in increases the idle speed, not cause it shut off except that if you try to get it to idle too slow it will stall. It only limits how far you can pull the handle back. But that doesn't have a thing in the world to do with the motor not starting. Look somewhere else for your starting problem.
