I realize they are a sponsor here but are they detailed enough to get me through any repairs I might encounter? They cover many different years, the manual I am looking at is part# 1300. It covers three of the outboards I have. The price is reasonable but without being able to look one over don't know if it will be what I need.

i rate seloc, as you use it to keep your knees clean when changing lower unit fluid, the Clymer manual, is the catch the oils drops from getting on the driveway.

Dark Cloud. You will never loose that name if you buy a Seloc. Get a factory service manual (paper not C.D.) and you can change your handle to "no cloud" Rick.

All of your engines are well covered in the 1964 edition of the Johnson Service Manual, DC.

They show up on eBay once in a while and no, mine is not for sale.

There was also a Glenn's Johnson Outboard Repair and Tune Up Guide copyrighted in 1969. Not as good as the Johnson Manual but waaaaay better than SELOC or Clymer.

www.kencook.com may have the Johnny Manual.

Good luck. :)

Re: SELCO repair manual ?

In spite of all the condemnations that Seloc gets in this thread,I beg to disagree.
For the simple old engines that you wish to work on,you will find that once you know your way around in the Seloc 1956 to 1972 for 2 cylinder johnson/evinrudes ,this manual will be a real help. The strong point of Seloc is that it expects you to be a complete beginner and it will take you by the hand and teach you how to fix your outboard.
On the other hand,I would not trust the Clymer to absorb spilled oil in the driveway. That manual would probably fall apart when it smells oil.
It goes without saying that the original factory manual is by far the best.

Re: SELCO repair manual ?

I don't know....I've worked on outboard motors since 1992 and probably repaired over a couple hundred of them. I own Seloc volumes 1-4 and I don't think they're bad. I don't open them a whole lot, because I know my way around these things pretty good and most of the motors I've repaired, don't even have manuals available.
