Just got boat couple weeks ago and have noticed scratches along keel due to pulling it on with winch as rollers are seized! I notice first roller at rear has what looks like to be a circlip on the end of the pin which goes through rubber roller, I have been spraying them with WD40 what is best way to tackle them to free off other than use grinder to cut off and replace with new rollers? I intend to fix rollers with boat on trailer! any help please would be great, trailer is made by Snipe. JBD

Re: seized rollers on boat trailer

Hello Dave and many thanks for your advice, I am down near Troon, I took boat in it's present condition to give me somthing to do,I did work on boats for about a year (outboards etc) before retiring, was motor trade all working life but can't stay away from boats, had sailing boat 1960s /1970s, trailer looks good project, simple, but boat is at side of house with engine attached and was looking for tried methods, this site is amazing, lots of real experts with loads of knowledge that they are willing to share, and not "I know and it's up to you to pay me to find out" I attempt to get the roller pin free by your method, is it better to use copperease or waterproof grease? many thanks for help! Dave can you tell me if the pin through roller is in contact with it all the way through? or only at the ends? JBD

yea cut off the rod if it is bent at all with a cut off wheel/grinder ...........if not bent maybee heat it up by pressing a solder gun to it for a while it should free things up a bit...

Jack boat up just enough to relieve pressure on the bad roller. A scizzor jack next to the roller should do it. Jack up maybe 1/4" or so. Then unbolt the entire roller assembly and take it to your workbench where it's easier to assess and work on.

Re: seized rollers on boat trailer

Yes thank you all for input, I was thinking about cutting piece of timber the shape of keel area to support it, scissors jack is graet idea considering limited space, I also think taking entire roller off trailer would be right way to go but on my Snipe Trailer there is a shaft about 1.1/4inch dia which goes down through bracket on trailer so it can only come out when boat is off?? Good design! I think it may be job for Burning torch and welder, why people ignore maintenance untill is gets to this stage is beyone me, it costs more money and time in the end!will keep site updated as to how I get on, but if it were off and freed off I'm sure it would work fine.
