I installed the whole SEI unit with the adapter to replace a cobra outdrive last year. It worked well all year, and is still going strong. I would recommend it to anyone.

I have been curious about these drives as well....how do they compare to the Merc drive?

Are they comparable or do they run ruffer or noisier than the merc?

I am also interested in one of their replacement drives, and it easy to see the advantages in terms of price and warranty. However, since I do not live Stateside, dependability is a very crucial factor for my choosing on what to do. So, how often do these drives break down ? More often that the original items or as often ?

Ayuh,... It's virtually the Same drive...
Even most of it's parts are directly interchangable...

Hello,

I have had the SE106Alpha 1 gen 1 installed since 2008 no issues with it mechanically. My only beef is with the paint. I had it painted twice and it still chipping. I think the anti fouling paint they put on these and regular mercs is more for salt water. My fresh water lake has its own characteristics and NO paint on aluminum seems to stand up well here.
