I need a trim cylinder - was shocked to see they are 400 dollars for seirra (alpha gen 2)
however, looks like I can get an SEI one for 120

does that even make sense? how bad is SEI - that's a huge price difference

I put a SEI counter rotating lower unit on my current boat and it's been 2 years of problem free boating
Put a SEI lower on a cousin's boat like 5 years ago, nothing but problem free summer fun

At the price you can go through 3 of them for the price of the Sierra... get that bad boy ordered!

man that's crazy, 25% of the cost - I just don't get it. I could see half for cheaper materials, lesser quality ,etc. but 75% off? worries me

I'm in a 20 year old boat so I don't mind

how do I ensure its not just the shell and its the full power trim cylinder

the outer tube is replaceable and there are only O rings internally

If you order a trim cylinder you will get a trim cylinder.
If you order just the "shell" you will get a "shell".

yep.
can I can get the outter canister from sierra for 100, but full unit for 400
any chance this SEI is only the outter canister? that makes more sense with that price point

I just don't understand how the same part can be 1/4 of the cost then

hmm...ok then, i'm rolling w/ the SEI product. even if it only lasts a year or two.
I love harbor freight :) lol

I just thought maybe it was a shell and not the full thing as the SEI circ water pump was actually more expensive than the seierra

The price is correct. You are asking how they sell it for so much less. All parts are made in china and assembled in the USA. That's how they sell there stuff for so much less. And they get parts soooo cheap, they give a 3 year warranty without even batting an eye. As far as compared to sierra, they are basically the same quality. They work fine, I had a set that the seals failed after a year. And it was cheaper replacing the seals than the shipping costs to have them fix it through the warranty. Not the best products for sea water use, but they do have great reviews on fresh water use.
