Re: Seaweed on the Middle Texas Coast
87Aggie,
Sargassum sea weed drifting and landing on the seashore is a common summer event along the Texas coast. The only difference from one year to the next is the amount which accumulates. If you and family are intending to use the beach, then go to a beach area where the county or city cleans the beach for visitors to the swim areas. This clean up service does occur in the Corpus Christi area (bay beach), some of the Galveston beach, Some of the beach west of Port Aransas in the Bob Hall Pier swim area of the county park, and some of the National Seashore beach area. You can call the National Seashore Park Headquarters of North Padre Isle and ask the ranger there about the seaweed conditions. Additionally, you can call the Nueces County Padre Balle park headquarters or the Bob Hall pier concession and ask about the seaweed conditions. I went offshore two weeks ago some 30 miles south of Port O'Connor and found moderate clumps of seaweed floating in the gulf. By this time some of it has come ashore.

Have a safe trip.
