My 1990 7.4L Mercruiser w/ Bravo One currently has a 2-piece plastic seawater pump...

I was going to rebuild it, but noticed that there is a small crack in the bottom of the plastic housing. It's 19-years old, (but only 290hours total) so I suppose it's exceeded it's lifespan...

I haven't seen any repair kits that include the center housing... can you buy these parts?

OR, I've also seen "1-piece" repair kits... are these interchangable, or are these replacements???

Generally speaking, what is the course of action one takes to get this seawater pump back into good working order, that doesn't involve buying a brand new one???

Thanks,

I am not "certain" of this. But I believe that if you buy the repair kit for the one piece housing, it will all bolt right up to the front of your pump. I believe this, because my dad did it to my boat in 1997 when he first bought it. Trashed the impeller, didn't want the extra housing and plates, so he upgraded it to the 1 piece body. And I "know" that he didn't buy a whole new pump assembly, cause he would NEVER spend that much money!

OK, it appears that the one piece Service kit is the replacement for the 2-piece pump kit... so I just ordered one.

Will update the thread and let you know how it works out...

Got the new seawater pump repair kit... 1-piece... I'm a little leary of this being made of plastic, but the original one lasted for 19-years... I suppose this one should hold up too....

I'll snap some assembly pics to share once I get it started...

The old one should have been plastic too. But anyway, they are plastic, and they last just fine.

I had the brass one on my 95 Rinker for two years, replaced it with the one piece plastic, since then replaced the impeller 4 more times, one burned up, still the same housing. So far no problems. Just don't over tighten it.
