I can get a free 96 Squirt. I don't like OMC to begin with but how much $ do you think it would take to do a top end rebuild and am i just rebuilding a junk motor design to begin with?

Welcome to iboats Cole24
Going to move this over to the Johnson/Evenrude forum. It's an outboard powerhead mounted on a jet pump, not an IO.

A little hard to say, since you don't know the extent of the damage. That crossflow type engine was made by the thousands by OMC. One of their signature powerheads. The are torquey engines. Many, many of them are still running today. Parts availability is very good. Since you have to pull it apart to repair it, do so-then you'll know what is going on inside-then get an estimate.

If I didn't like OMC to begin with, I'd stay away from it.
