Sears 3hp

I have a sears 3hp motor that I am working on and for some reason the carb just dumps fuel at all times. Has anyone every heard of the float becoming to heavy to float? This is the only thing I can think of that could cause this but wanted to ask all of you before changing it? What fo you think?

Absolutely, floats sink. Some worse than others, don't know what you have--no model #

Float valves (needle and seat) give much more trouble than floats.
