Maybe it's me but anytime I try to use the search I get, umm, every thing but what I was searching for.

As an example, I needed to find posts from our buddy Opps concerning how he installed a heater in his boat driven from the engine. I tried every word and combination of words I could come up with and got no where. Well that's not true, I got pages of threads having nothing at all to do with it.

Hate to say this but I can use Google to search the iBoat forums and get much better results and that's not saying a whole lot. There has to be better tools available to the sites web master.

Instead of Opps, try Oops! (including the exclamation mark) and see what happens.

He has also been absent from the forums for several months now.

I didn't use his name in the search Don, he has so many posts I was trying to find a specific one about how he installed his heater.

I understand the vBulletin search isn't the greatest, but there isn't much I can do to change the functionality of this feature. I typed in "heater" for keyword, searched all posts and forums, with the username "oops!". The first one to come up was the one posted above.

Try it without the users name. Most people aren't going to know who the users are and just search on a topic or key word.


Just thinking outloud, what about putting a google search feature on the site?

I'll see what others think of that. If you search this in google, the first result is oops! thread.
