I guys I have a 1982 sea ray 260 hp just bought the thing two weeks ago. Everything seems to be in working order took it out twice just for short trips. Just wondering if anyone had any useful insight for this boat. Things to check on things to look at any info would be nice.

The boat is basically vintage. Best place to find things like what you are looking for is EBAY. I bought a set of new original Sea Ray emblems off eBay for mine. If I were you, I would take the piece off and have it re-upholstered. Lucky you, I have the OMC. I wish I had the Merc.

Yeah I have very little working knowledge of boats cab get the basic stuff done, Just reapolstered everything and we are going to eventually make a tempplate to replace that other vynil piece I'll try to get some pics up nothing special though. I am taking it then that the OMC is not up on the same level with the Merc. I can't seem to get her really going at a good speed maybe the fastest about 20 MPH it seems to me that she has a lot more to giver I can just not pull it out, any tips doing something wrong with the trim or plane of the boat I do not know I know it just takes a hell of a long time to get to the fishin spot. One more ? does your searay have a bait holder in the back. I can not figure out what that back compartment is it seems to have a drain on one side and a pump on the other but theree is no corisponding switch on the dash and the previous owner put holes all in it. I was just wondering if that would be worth my time to rplace.

OMC is out of business, there appears to be a surplus of parts but they're expensive. I cruise at 20-27MPH. I'm pretty sure my rpm is around 25MPH is 3000RPM. You should top out at 35-40MPH. Something is not right. What is your engine RPM at 20MPH? should be around 2500-3000RPM depending on prop size and pitch. I have a 14 3/4 X 17 pitch stainless prop. Top speed wide open 4400-4600RPM. Could be an issue with having the wrong prop. You have the 5.7L (350) with the 4 barrel carb right? I would check prop first, then move on to engine condition and problems affecting performance. As far as trim, you want it down all the way or close to it to get on plane quicker, then once on plane, raise the trim to center or higher on your trim gauge if you have one. If not, look at the bow, it should raise. The more trim you give it the more it will push the boat out of the water, this will decrease drag and raise your speed. Look at your tach too, you will see the RPM raise as you trim more and more. Typically you can back down on the throttle some and maintain the same speed if you're trimmed right. Look out the back of the boat too and make sure you are not over-trimmed and the prop is creating a lot of wash (water spray).

The back tub or rather compartment you speak of is for skis and ropes and such. The hole is just a drain hole, nothing more. If he put holes in it, then when it rains you will have water draining out of it and into the engine compartment. My sea ray does not have a bait holder, its not really setup for fishing but you could easily make one.
