I'm removing the drivers backtoback seat and installing a pedestal mount bucket. Will give me a little more room behind the wheel.

Any concerns?

Where did you find a captain chair for your boat? I was contemplating the same swap the only concern I have is the "footprint" that the back to back seating will leave in your carpet once it has been removed..let me know how you make out..

I have a 180, and although came with the captains chair, was thinking changing the back to back seats for the passenger to another captains chair.. (so they can turn around etc and more space).. please let us know how you go..

re the carpet.. on the 180, its fiberglass underneath.. not plywood.. so was thinkng pulling all the carpet out and putting teak in there.. much easier to keep clean, and dont get the soggy carpet smell neither..

Please keep us posted on how your project goes.

I've got a 1998 175 sport with a captains chair for the driver and a back to back for the passenger. My wife and I have talked on and off about removing the back to back and installing a captains chair for her.

I asked a dealer about it and he said that since the boat was built with a back to back at the factory the floor would not be reinforced for a captains chair, but I don't believe him.

Good luck !!

Re: Searay 175

I did get the seat changed out and it works very well so far. I don't think there is any reineforcement under the deck on this boat. I got a pretty low pedistal and secured it with 6 lag bolts.

It has held up very well, considering I'm a pretty good sized guy (6.0 275lbs). I found a nice seat here at Iboats which also has a bolster and I'm really liking being able to stand up behind the wheel and also use the bolster. I really bent up my back to back seating by knelling on it, etc.

I'm hoping that this new seat never comes loose and am still a little nervous since I coudn't put nuts on the bolt which hold down the pedistal.

I think I'm going to be ok because I've been carefull not to be too carefull and give this new seating a chance to prove itself.
