I found a 1997 Searay 175 with a Merc 115 outboard for about 8000 it looks in real good shape, but I dont understand the comparrisons to I/O power except the weight issues. I owned a 1987 SeaRay Seville 17 with the 3.0L I/O until last October. I was impressed with SeaRay's product. I enjoyed the I/O except that I could not use it in the winter time. I do not know where you live but, if you want to use your boat on a nice day in January, buy an outboard engine. I like an outboards throttle response better, too. The outboards self drain all of the coolant water out when you pull them out of the water. Also, depending on where you plan to boat, you may not be able to use a carburated 2 stroke outboard engine. Emission issues are starting for boat engines. Some waters do not allow the use of carburated 2 stroke engines today. The outboard will use more fuel. Keep asking for information and opinions. You'll get many. You have to be happy with your choice. Bert :D

I don't have an opinion on the actual boat, but I too have an I/O and am happy with it.(5.7L Mercruiser) You will find some good threads here that discuss the pros and cons of each, just do a search. The only downfall I have with mine is what bertherr mentioned, cannot use until you know the temp is going to stay above freezing. I recommend you check the threads and decide for yourself. You are in a good used boat market right now, ggiersdorf. With the low rates, everyone's been upgrading so you should be able to find some good deals. I bought my boat last year, used, and I probably searched for about 3 months and looked at well over 1000 boats online. You can really cover some ground with the web these day's. Get an overall idea of what you want and start shopping. I remember when I was looking, I would find something I really liked and then the next day I would find something even better. Be patient and good luck.
