Seals ruined????

1997 volvo 5.7gs sxcobra
Just bought boat few months back
checked oil level in outdrive 1/16" above fill line on dipstick
no oil leaks visible no oil in the boat no water in the oil
mechanic checked it out and and said oil in the bellows seals need replaceing

time to get the hog`s leg and put it out of it`s misery
Those seals are normal wear and tear items.That is why removing the outdrive is recommended in the fall for service.
Seals ,on average 4- 6 years

Any special tools needed to replace the seals?

If you don't have them, they are special. You will need an inch pound dial torque wrench to set the rolling torque on the double bearing box, along with a new crush sleeve and screw in the end of the shaft.
Along with a service manual to get it right. The manual is the each part.
