I have a Sealocks propeller lock on my 115 mercury outboard. My problem is that the prongs on the key are broken and I can't get my propeller off. EDIT I just picked up my reworked laser II prop and can't install it because of the broken key. EDIT I tried searching on ebay and google and can't find the mercury set. I bought an OMC kit, but the key unfortunately didn't fit. thanks

Re: Sealocks Propeller lock

There should be a number on the lock body. Call the manufacturer with the number and order a new key. It's possible that a local locksmith will have it in their books.

-- or --

Do the same thing the thiefs do. Squirt it with CRC Freeze Off and then smack the lock part with a center punch and hammer. Once you have the lock portion out you should be able to release the latch part. Don't get too carried away with the banging. Just keep freezing and smacking it until it finally all comes out.

I had thought of using a punch and a hammer. Thanks for the tip with the freeze spray. The key doesn't have a number on it so i guess i'll have to persuade it to come off, lol. thanks for the reply.

I got that sucker off, not before smacking my thumb a couple times. But that's ok because my old prop is off and the new one in on. Thanks for the help.

Or admit it if he did. :D

Here's a tip an old timer taught me. When you use a punch or chisel, set the point where you want it, hold it firmly there, then look at the head of the punch where you're going to hit it, then swing. Most people look at the point and hit their thumb.

hope it helps (next time)
