6 Coats of oil over a one week period and it is still bone dry every day when I come back. I have have enough.

What is the best products for durabilty, and to maintain the look of the wood without making it fake.

I have read on here it is a sin to seal teak as there is no way to keep it nourished. I also read it is impossible to seal a teak wood as the oil content will not allow any type of sealer to adhere other than short term.

I have teak stripping and oiling down to a science on all my surround and interior pieces, but I absolutly cannot stand working on the platform. Its just too labor intensive.

Modern teak oil is a joke. I've gone to Cetol and I do not think it looks fake.

You could sell the teak and build a platform from marine plywood that is dipped in a urethane bed liner. You could get a fibreglass platform to replace it.

Its already intact. Although I do not go out searching for boats with lots of teak, it just came with it so it is a plus..... However it needs to be sealed better than with teak oil.

Plus on the cetol. My boat is under a canopy and it last at least 1 1/2yrs. Depends on how much sunlight hits it.

Not to be a smart *** but teak oil is the most recommended way to maintain it. For the love of all things sacred do NOT attempt to 'seal' the teak w/polyurethane, varnish, etc. No good will come from that ...

Hi Guys:

I agree with V123. I have lots of original teak on my 35 year old boat, I'm so glad no-one before me covered it in any kind of varnish. It's only ever been oiled. I slather lots of the cheapest furniture oil from the superstore on all the teak and I have a dark brown waterproof result which does not peel. I hope my experience helps.
