Re: Seal kit part number 1957 QD18

Sierra chart does not show a seal kit for the 18hp older than 1958.

EDIT: Sorry, I meant to say 10hp. However, 1957 was the year that the prop shaft seal was changed mid-year. You will need a correct Johnson parts book and that serial number to tell which one you have. OR, look on the seal, it probably has the part number stamped on it. Early 1957 had a 302495, later ones had a 302545.

I believe the 1958 18hp seal kit will work if you have the 302545 seal. 1958 10hp was way different so don't even go there.

If you have the early one, seals are individually available from an Evinrude dealer, but not as a kit. Don't be surprised, the 302495 alone seal is about 25 bucks.

A QD 18 is a 10 hp.

I know that. But I made a typo because I was looking for 18hp kits as an alternative. In 1957, the 10 & 18hp motors used the same lower units. That's why I suggested the 1958 18hp kit...if yours has the newer version of the prop shaft seal. Check the number on your seal.

Very easy to do. Thanks.

That is why the early kits are worth so much more than the later ones that Sierra will make. Don't pay 25 for the seal though, I can probably do the whole kit for under 30 shipped.
