I have a 1980 15 HP Seaking that I aquired. When I go to pull start the engine the gears that are suppose to hit each other don't touch unless I manually put them where the are suppose to be. If I do this, then I only get one pull out of it then it misses again. Hope this makes sense. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Seaking question

You may need to just clean and lube the pinion gear.
It may require dissasembly which is a pain and may require a special tool
you can make. Don't have the details right here just now.

Re: Seaking question

It's been many a moon since I've looked at one of those, but as I seem to recall it is supposed to have a friction spring on the pinion gear that tends to make it stand still when the spindle starts to rotate. That is what causes the gear to "screw" itself upwards on the spindle and engage the flywheel.

So, look for such a friction spring. Might be in a groove on the bottom of the pinion.

Re: Seaking question

DUB, I had the same problem, I ended up ordering new parts for the bendix type starter, (cost me over $150.00 for the parts I needed) If you need some directions to be guided in, let me know and I can see what I can do. There are lots of experts here (I am far from one) but I can tell what I have learned, I could also send you a .pdf of what you need.
