I have recently aquired a Johnson 70 ETL77S. Does it have water show jet at the top of the shaft?
Is there any other visual way you can tell that the water pump is pumping water to the engine block?

You should have a pee-hole at the back of the motor. Might take a moment to circulate the water through the head and pee out, but it should pee out within 20 seconds. Other checks can be to drip alittle water on the head. If it steams off or sizzles,you got no water. But thats a dangerous check cause damage might already be happening. Might have a clogged up pee hole. Try cleaning it out with a thin wire or similar.
