I never saw an automotive fuel or oil additive that I did not consider to be snake oil. But all of the discussion re SeaFoam, on this board, enticed me to give it a try. So I bought a few cans and set them on the shelf.

As of recent my Wifes '01 Taurus, w, 41k miles started running real rough on morning start up. Eventually the 'check engine lite' lit up. I reset it a couple of times but it kept coming back.

Last week when the gas tank was down to 1/4, I poured a can of SeaFoam into the gas tank. As the days went by the car acted more normal as it started up in the morning. Two days ago I reset the computer and the lite has not returned. The car runs normal on morning startup.

It must not be snake oil Hmmmm?

Boom make sure the throttle body is clean. Disconect the hose between the air filter and the throttle body and look into throttle and see if its clean (open throttle and look behind the throttle plate also). This area is famous for getting crusted with deposits and usually shows up as rough running or possiably stall on cold start-up. If its dirty it basically chokes the air off to the engine at idle untill the Idle Air Control Solonoid can compensate. Just clean it up and reassemble hose.

Reel Poor, should I spray anything in there while I have the boot off?

Yep, Deep Creep (white red and black can) is the spray form of seafoam, they have it at autozone here.

I sold auto parts for years and there are only two additives that work...
Sea Foam and Chevron Tectron...........

Re: SeaFoam report.

I'm with you on the Seafoam - I add a can to my fuel about every three months and again at the end of the season as a fuel stabilizer.

I've also had a good result with their transmission additive. I had a lazy 1-2 shift (1993 Nissan pickup with 125,000 miles). I changed the tranny filter and the fluid in the pan, which is only about 1/3 of the total trans fluid, and added Seafoam. I ran it that way and found marked improvement over the span of about 1,000 miles. I'll drain off the pan and replace the fluid again shortly.

I agree that most additives aren't worth using, but Seafoam is among the very few exceptions in my opinion.
