I have been looking around for a good pair of used jet skis and I think what kind of style I like and what would probably be in my price range is either XP's or GSX's in years between 97-99. Which is a better machine, and is there any Seadoo archive where I can see specs and compare. I can only find info from nadaguides.com and that doesn't tell much. Also what would be a fair price on two with trailer on each kind. Thanks.

Re: Seadoo XP & GSX

xp is a narrower hull than a gsx and a little shorter if I recall correctly xp would have the 787 110 hp engine and the gsx a 951 130 hp engine, neither are known for reliability but the 951 is worse for it's ability to grenade without warning, if speed is your thing then both are fast enough to get your attention, if reliability and stability are more important look for a gs it is the same hull as the gsx with a smaller engine and it is a lot of fun and stable for a 2 seater with the wider and longer hull price on a xp or gsx should be in the 3000 range on a sp or a gs 2500 range, the sp is the same hull as the xp with the smaller engine like a gs has.

The GSX has the 110hp 787. The GSX Limitedhas the 130hp 951.

I would think the GS or GSX is a better all around beginner machine than the XP. Especially in the years you are looking at. The 97 XP is completely different than the previous ones, and very different than the sp.

If you are looking at machines in the 97-99 range, the GSX would be my choice, with the GS in a close second.

If you are a speed junky then the GSX Limited may be your choice. There is a premium price on them though.

I am a 44 year old who doesn't want to grow up. I have rode dirt bikes and quads all my life and drive a lifted Ford Superduty. Comfort obviously isn't a concern. I really like something that handles responsively and is quick out of the hole, but doesn't have to have super top speed. What do you reccomend.

Re: Seadoo XP & GSX

Im in the same boat sort of, im 53, slolomski behind jet skis and jump huge waves all the time with my skies, do all sorts of stunts with them and spend 3 days a week on the water, a 2 seater will definitely be more maneuverable a gs would be my choice if I wanted to revert back to a 2 seater but I do anything I want on a 3 seater including cruising to islands etc where the water is really rough and a 2 seat ski would be a work out that I just don't see being worth it. get a stand up for playing around and a 3 seater for taking passengers skiing tubing etc. I had a ball the other day when a group of people had a tight course set up and were practicing their racing turns on 2 seaters and standup skies, I watched for a while and observed the pattern they were running, when they stopped to rest I drove over on my couch, asked them what they were doing and after a short conversaiton I asked if I could try to run the course with my old 3 seater just for kicks. They agreed to let me run it, I told them I was not sure how the old couch would handle a tight course so don't make fun of me if I fall off, I fugured that should set them up, I went out and ran the course wide open laying on my back steering with my feet and never missed a turn , when I went back they were giving me the thumbs up and one of them asked me if I wasn't afraid of being tossed off the seat and striking the side rail, I said hack no I even jump waves like that and then I went on my way, they just looked at each other. I guess they never bothered to read the lettering on the ski, and I never told them the ski has enhanced steering.
