I have reciently aquired a 96 Seadoo SPX thats in EXCELLENT Condition body wise for sitting outside for 7 years. Every time I hook the battery up it blows the 5A starting circut fuse! When I cross the Starter Solnoid terminals the starter kicks over..

I have now at the moment pulled the motor out and pressure cleaned the hull seeing as how the oil and fuel have leaked into the hull and made it nasty.
She smells good and looks new in there now! :)

I cleaned/ dremeled the starter body mounting points, negetiave cable point, battery terminal ends, checked with meter - Starter switch, Kill switch,....

I checked the CDI/ MPEM and was not sure on the ratings that i recieved from it. Maybe I didnt have my meter set correctly. everything ohm'd out ok..

I am lost as to what it would be pulling that much amperage every time thetbattery is hooked up in the starter circut with out the switch being touched..

have you tried disconnecting the trim box?

occasionally a chip of flywheel will get lodged in between the mag pickup and stator, creating a dead short like that, but i think that's a different circuit as well...

all you have to do is connect the battery and it blows, right?

usually when the 5 apm fuse blows it is the trim motor,, the boots are notorious for letting water in to the motor,, unplug the wires to the trim and see if the fuse is ok,, if it is you will need to clean out or replace the motor and the boot at the rear of the hull

Jeff, I will try that today with the VTS...

I am going to trade the 96 Seadoo SPX and 95 Yama Wav3 w/ 26hrs for a NEW 97 Kawasaki 1100 STX. Hull has 20 hours! and Motor has .5 hours! With all new lightened equipment, Upgraded Prop, LOADED! Depth Finder, Hummingbird, GPS etc.. this way the whole family can go out at once..
