Shop says carbs and fuelpump need overhauled due to the age, of the Seadoo Rotax engine ,a 1999 model. They say the carbs fail after a few years and can destroy the engine. It is expensive, and I wonder if it is true, or they just want the work? Thanks..

Re: Seadoo rotax carb overhaul

I had a independent mechanic overhaul 2 carbs and the fuel pump fpr $157. He did not use any kits, he says the shops seldom use more than one or 2 items, in the kits that they make the customer buy, and they just use the seals out of their stock of kits they have saved, that the other customers have bought, and sometimes even charge for kits that were never opened. If the mechanic is careful to not hurt the parts in the kit, they mostly just need cleaned, this mechanic has worked in many boat shops and knows what most shops standard procedures are. The shop quoted me over $500 for the same thing, I got done for $157. The boat runs great now.

usually if you replace the diaphragms and clean the small filter and the carb passages you will be fine, and if you use yamaha diaphragms you will save money same part number but sea doo charges more for the part
