How good are the little spiphon bailers in the bilge of these units? Mine fills up and has to be drained after each use. I pulled one of these and found the screens rather plugged with oil from a spill. Do they really do the job? Besides the oil, anything else to check for? I blew on the tube for that one and it is clear. Didn't have anyone around to see if my air was coming out the right place or not.

normally they work fine, I would be looking for why you have water in the ski, it should not be getting a lot of water in it ,look for the driveshaft seal or an exhaust cooling leak ,those are the most common causes of water in the hull and eventually the water will get sucked in to your engine and ruin it. check all the welded plugs on the exhaust pipe and the gasket where it bolts to the manifold

Only get it in rough water when it is splashing over the unit. Found out that when work had been done on the outdrive, or whatever you call it, they didn't align the siphon tubes at the back of the unit. Fixed now. Haven't run it yet.

So if a few drops get sucked into the carb from splashing up, is that enough to ruin the engine? It went out last year, marina said water ingestion. It was sunk before I bought it and fixed, I always suspected a poor fix from that episode.
