Some end up stripping the rotary drive gear ( its brass and it is replaceable), usualy poblems arise with neglect. need to change the inline oil filter and pump oil basically keep up on the maintenance. I had a 1992 GTX 3 seater my wife rode and we owned it for a long time. i think smewhere around 12 years or so. I had no problems with it in all that time. When i sold it the compression was still like new and you could eat off the ski inside and out. its all on how theire maintained..
Go 40:1 and Yes premix your fuel. less worry that way.

the difference between the skis you mentioned is basically some trim and dual carb options and guages some prop pitch changes. Due to the dual carb option some HP differences but other than that its like buying a Honda LX versus a honda EX. Same ski different options

Re: Seadoo 580 Sp

Thanks for the info im going to order a clymer book and the one that needs rebuilt i will tear the motor out and clean the inside out lots of 2 stroke oil and crap in there i would say no one maintained them much i figured these would be good beginer skis i was told that you have to block off an oil line somewhere if you want to just premix the gas or it will suck air and blow them up is this true or can you just premix and go

Re: Seadoo 580 Sp

You need to completely remove the oil pump and the plastic drive gear inside the rotary valve cover. then the two oil lines that are going to the middle of the engine case need to be tied together ( those lines supply oil to the rotary valve gear. persoanlly i wouldnt bother with the clymer manual. get the factory manual from sea doo. a little more money but 100x better than the clymers IMO
