Hi i just received a seadoo 580 rings were stuck from sitting i tore it down have the rings unstuck good compression but i cant get any spark i have 2 91 seadoo 580s and was wondering if there was an easy way to test each part stator cdi coil i was going to take one of my other running skis apart and just swap in each part starting with the cdi then coil hoping its not the stator does anyone know an easy way to test those without swapping them into my other skis as i dont want to screw up a running ski also does anyone know what size that woodruff key is mine broke when i tore it down and i cant find one anywhere also there was alot of gunk and rust under the flywheel so i took off the metal covers that were on the flywheel to expose just the magnets would that cause a problem as for it not sparking also i have to motor out of the ski does it have to be plugged back into the switches on the ski to get spark i thought maybe that could be like in kill switch mode with out being hooked up any ideas here

yeah you need to have the motor in the ski hooked up. There is no way to get spark without the CDI unit. You have a big run on sentence as your post and its confusing. Youre not gonna get any spark without the MPEM hooked up. also youre not gonna be able to keep the flywheel from spinning on the crank without the woodruff key. It may stay for a while but eventually it will move because the starter will knock it out of position thus screwing up the timing.
Not sure what you mean by metal covers. im assuming you mean the metal stuff on the inside of the fly wheel. Probably wont make a huge difference btu its there to protect the magnets.
Either way you need to put the motor in the boat you cant get spark out of it on the bench unless you remove the MPEM and the harness from the boat and then bench test it. You really should get a factory manual. it will make trouble shooting easier

Yeah I unhooked the mpem from the ski. Will it throw spark with the wires disconnected like the ones i unplugged from the kill switch and starter buttons. should i just put it back in plug in all my connections and see if it sparks then. I would think without holding down the kill switch button i wouldn't get any spark. So that may be why its not sparking on the bench. Yes the metal covers over the magnets are what i removed they were corroded causing them to rub the stator! The stator looks good and clean I will set the motor back in the ski hook up the connections and see what happens

The kill switch will do just that. Kill any spark going to the coils. The kill switch needs to be held down in order to get spark

Hey sat the motor back in the ski hooked up the wires. Put some mixed gas in the cyclinders hooked up the battery pack to it and it fired up for a few seconds. Well atleast i know i am getting spark now to clean the carb and run new fuel lines etc... thanks for your help
