I have a 2000 LRV 4 person ski given to me free with 35 hours on it and it's in terrible sun damaged shape. The carbs are locked. Any suggestion? The buterflies don't move.

Ski has only 35 hours.

remove the carbs from the engine and get kits for each carb,, place the carbs in a coffee can or similar container and soak them for a few days in a mixture of mineral spirits and automatic transmission fluid. if the carbs locked up be sure the engine is not locked up as it may have been submerged.

Jeff,

Have you ever done this? There is a huge manifold blocking access. I've taken out all the screws and loosened up the tension ring too but its still on there tight as if it were welded. I think this ski will start if I can get to the carbs and get them working.

RM

yes but I would be sure of the compression in the engine before you do anything , it sounds like it was sunk or rolled or something, if you don't go through the carbs totally you will have a lot of problems later on I am sure of it. I use atf for a lot of things including removing water from the block or freeing up stuck pistons it is amazing how it will loosen things up and it actually mixes with water so getting salt water out of a crank case after it has been submerged is one thing it really helps with. I assume from your description it has a 951 engine in it, the exhaust manifold gasket is supposed to hold to both sides and it is a beast to put back in place especially the stud with the 17mm nut, I learned to change the nut to a 15 mm or even a 14 mm with a flat washer and a box wrench will then fit on it to tighten it, I have heated and bent about 6 wrenches just because of that stupid nut, also with that ski you better totally clean the entire fuel system and remove the fuel selector switch and clean it out. just my experience with those and be sure if it has a accelerator pump that it works properly as they get clogged up. pull the fuel pick up tubes out of the tank and clean that as well and the filter, I usually replace all the fuel hoses as they deteriorate internally if you see any goo when you disconect the fuel lines it means they are needing to be replaced, just take your time with it.

The shafts for those particular carbs on the 951 are unavailable for replacement. If they do not loosen up you will have to replace both carbs. Your best source will be www.hotproductsusa.com, and www.jetskimechanic.com. Both these guys have a line on new Mikuni carbs for this particular watercraft at a fraction of the cost of OEM

The ski sat in the water for 6 months. It didn't go under but it took on water to the point just above what i believe is the oil injector or the oil throttle which is low and on the front of the engine. I think the carbs are locked due to moisture but not water into them or the block. I didnt do a compression check but the compression appears to be rock solid based on spraying oil in them and watching fully hand tightened plugs not hold in the oil spray. Anyhow, I appreciate all the suggestions. I hope I can get this up and running. I'll check out the carb sources too

RM
