I have had this boat since March. And I really feel I could do better on the prop. I am currently running a Power Tech 13.25 X 21 and I am only getting 41-42 Mph at 6000 rpms according to my Gps. The Motor is mounted in the 4th hole from the top or the 2nd hole from the bottom of the engine mountimg bracket. And the engine is about 1/4 '' below the lowest point on my hull at the stern.

Can anyone share their setup and performance issues on this boat and motor combination?

I hope the people on this forum will be more helpful than those on thehulltruth.com.

Thanks

DMC

DMC ,what rpms are you turning at WOT?Where is cavitation plate on lower unit when motor is level in relation to bottom of boat?My search indicates that the df140 should turn up near 6000 at WOT.

How many max rpms are you running? You should prop to where your engine run to where your rpms peak out at about 5200 if your engine is running right. Your motor should be mounted so your cavitation plate is level or slightly below the bottom of the boat.

Thanks for the replies fellas I forgot to mention the RPM's are at 6000, the cavitation plate is about 1/4 '' below the lowest point on the hull.

I will go back and edit my original post so as to reduce confusion.

Thanks

DMC

DMC , you could possibly raise motor 1 hole if absolutely wanting a slight increase in top end ,However you will have to check for cavitation in full turn situation. If it exists it is advisable to bring back to original setting.I don't think 42MPH is slow at all for that motor pushing your 22 ft rig.Sounds like your RPMS are optimal and I personally would leave it where its at.

Re: Seachaser 220 Bayrunner/Suzuki DF140

OB:
I don't think I should raise the motor any higher as it tends to brake loose in sharp turns. Not really a problem as I trim down a couple of degrees and correct that, then trim back up for max speed. Overall the boat really handles great the way it is now. I had raised it one hole from where it was when I got the boat. It was not very well behaved in rough water in the 3rd hole from the top. It would porpoise and beat and bam alot. If I trimmed it down to stop all that, then it would veer left and right. Now that its in the 4th hole from the top it is like a different boat.

I didn't mention that when I first got the boat the dealer loaned me a 14 x 24 Suzuki prop. And it would only turn up to 5000 Rpm,but it was running 44 Mph by Gps.

I'm kind of thinking the 14 X 20 or 22 prop may be the right one. My belief is that I may be lacking lift due to the diameter of my prop. Not to mention the size of the vortex.

Thanks for the feed back

DMC
