sea water pump issue

i just ran my boat yesterday with hose. when it was running i noticed that the was water leaking between the lower unit and upper. Last time i did the water pump there was a plastic peice that was melted. I replaced it but I haven't pulled them apart yet. Any ideas. also on the upper unit theres a plug lookin thing pushed out behind the mercruiser sticker.

Has the drive been stored in the Up position this winter,..??

THE drive is on the boat. and i blew it out with an air gun
