I posted this last night in the wrong forum and was politely told to re-post it here.
I am restoring an old boat (1975 - Mercruiser, 351, 233HP). This is my first sterndrive and I have a lot to learn. Anyway, it has a thru hull fitting in the bottom for water intake to the heat exchanger. The previous owner had a problem with the hose that runs from the intake to the water pump and the boat took on quite a bit of water. The hose broke while in a marina so it was not too big a deal; had he been away from shore it could have been somewhat problematic.
In any event, is there supposed to be a valve of some sort between the intake and the hose? If so, where can one be purchased.

Re: Sea Water Intake

You should have a valve right above the p/u.
