Sea Rayder Starting Problems & Mystery Black Box

Hi, we own a 1997 Sea Rayder. We have had some intermittent starting problems & are in dire need of some direction.

If you own one of these, you know the drill, turn the key, hear a beep, press the starter button. On occasion we turn the key & hear no beep (nor does any of the electrical stuff come to life like the gas gauge). The only way to get it started at that point (and run it without any speed, fuel or tach info) is to press a silver button on the side of the engine.

We've had three different mechanics look at it & they have all come to the same concensus...there is a small black box with five wires going to it that sits between the gas gauge & speedometer. The box has no markings, is about 2-1/2" square, and has a red, black, yellow, grey, and purple wire coming from it. The black goes to grounds it shares with the other gauges, yellow to the starter, red back to the main harness, gray to the tach, purple to the tach. Does anyone have any idea what this part is or what it does? Any idea where I can get one? We've tried Seadoo with no luck.

Anyone think this might be our problem or something different?

Any help would be REALLY appreciated!!

Thanks,

Phil

very possible - can you open the box to see inside for corrosion - if not just get yourself some marine grade wire , butt connectors, heat and heat shrink tube , then cut the box out and connect the wires accordingly , the box is just to keep it looking neat , you could also keep it neat by wrapping some wire loom around it if you wanted . try that and post back -
