I have an 1983 Sea Ray and having a hard time finding the ignition key. It's a weird key and kind of like a key for a Master Lock. I have gone to Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Mart and still no one has this type of key (the blank). Any suggestions?

I used a blank -- Y 11 for mine. It is a common blank that fits most boats. Maybe try a local hardware store where you can get more personal service? Go with the older guy/gal... not the kid.<br /><br />"95 Sea Ray 23' cuddy, 5.7 IO

Re: Sea Ray Keys?

Came across a Sea Ray Key situation, while making back ups of my keys for a 250 Sundancer. Ignition seemed like a normal key, all the typical retailers had it. However while trying to make a copy of the cabin key, I couldn't find any where so I called my SeaRay dealer and they wanted $30.00 to copy. It was a key made in Sweden. No Way. I called local lock smiths they had the match, it was a key that the Harly-Davidson bikes used. Made a copy for $2.00. Not sure if your key is the Swedish type or not, but a lock smith might help.

Was there any kind of number on the Harley key?

I went to hardware stores and still no luck. I will try a lock smith and see what happens. I too am not going to pay $30 for a key copy.

Re: Sea Ray Keys?

Quick version: put a new ignition switch in for about $15. This is easy.
Long version: I went to 3 hardware stores and had 4 separate key sets made. None worked the original ignition switch on my 1983, 225 Express Cruiser. You can match up the numbers on the original key, but there's something different about what that number means today vice 1983. If it turns, it still won't crank the engine.

Re: Sea Ray Keys?

I found a place at the lake which is a hardware store/boat supply store. I had the guy make me some keys and none worked. The problem was the guy cut them worng. Came back and another guy made me some new keys and they worked fine. They actually had the blanks. I ended up getting four keys. I think I paid around a buck each. That beats having to go to the sea ray dealer.
