2003 SeaRay 280 Dancer. I have lost the blue back lights in one gauge.
I have removed it and not sure if it can be opened up or if it has to be
sent to the manufacture for a bulb. Any money saving tip for this one
besides a flashlight in my teeth.

I've never seen a gauge with a backlight that needed to be opened up to replace the bulb. Remove the holder, snap out the bulb and replace it with a like unit from any auto parts store or the auto dept at any farm or home store.

Nope. It is compleatly sealed unit. No bulb holder. No screws. The gauge looks to be sealed and glued!

Post a picture if you can. Unless these are really high end gauges that might have a "flourescent" type of back light, I really am puzzled that the bulb is not replaceable.

Re: Sea ray Gauge back lights

Just spent the morning talking to the Sea Ray folks, who sent me to the
Mercury folks who installed the gauges. If the light burns out in one of
these gauges, the gauge must be replaced. Also there are no markings on the
gauge as to who the manufacture is. Mercury will not share that information so
contacting the manufacture for a refurbishment is out of the question. It looks as if I want to have a back lit gauge it will cost $200 - $400. A bit more than a $2 bulb. What a racket!

Geez -- you don't need to spend that kind of money to get backlit gauges. In fact you can buy an entire set for that and have a couple bucks left over. Are these digital gauges by any chance. If so -- then yes, you might be on the hook for that kind of scratch. You can buy new gauges with replaceable back lights right here on iBoats. If they don't have what you want, try:
