Hi,

I have a few questions about Sea Ray boats. I'm looking at the 26-28' range. When I look at yachtworld.com for Sundancer 260, it sometimes say it's 26' long and sometimes 28', what's up with this? Are they mixing LOA with LWL so that all 260's are actually 28' in overall length?
Question nr. 2, which models have radar archs? Are they only available on larger boats or can one purchase an arch that fits a 260 Sundancer, if so, can someone tell me where?
What about the different motor opts? There are EFI, MPI, 5.0, 5.7 and different drives, Bravo II Bravo III etc. Anything that is preferred or to be avoided.

Thanks alot,
Mattias

The 260 is 26 feet long with an LOA of 28 feet which includes the bow pulpit and the swimplatform.

There is no replacement for displacement. I would opt for the 5.7 with the Bravo III. It will give you better out of the hole performance and better manuverability, especially in reverse. The 5.0 in the 260 may be somewhat underpowered.

Do a thorough check on the Sea Ray before you leap. I think I saw an article written by a surveyor that was very critical of their construction. I think it related to balsa core construction.

Hi,
I own a 1987 30 ft. sea ray weekender and have to say it is the best for running in a chop without any pounding. Also last year I installed an a.c. and had to cut into the floor in the cabin to install a thru hull fitting. What I found was a bilge that was solid dense foam which I am sure contributes greatly to the stiffnes of the hull. This is the best built power boat I have ever owned, and with inboards there is no outdrive problems to contend with. The hull jell coat still has a great shine ,and with care this boat will outlast me.

Searay's are great boats. It's all up to the maintenance to determine how long and how well they perform.

I have a 5.0 mpi in a 25' cuddy and it performs pretty well- pulls skiers etc. However, I think it would be way underpowered for a 26' cabin cruiser. If you buy it with that engine, you'll regret it within 6 months.

My experience with sea ray was excellent. Very high quality construction, very soft ride, and 45 mph for a 165 I6 I/O in an 18' boat with this construction (hence weight) tain't bad.

Thank you very much for your replies! How do you compare Merc to Volvos? Sea ray will probably be my first choice but I don't think I would hesitate if I saw a good price on a Wellcraft 2600 Martinique, the ones with radar arch are very attractive plus they come with Volvo engines. I have understood that Sea Rays are quality, would you say the same about Wellcraft?

Thanks once again,
Mattias

IMHP Wellcraft is a hands down better boat

Searay spends a lot of money to create the perception of quality and is and OK boat but not any better built than the boats in its price range

Agreed, after a fluke buying accident (had no intention of buying) i ended up with one, in comparing boat's after the fact for a 19' boat it offer's a lot of value aka sheer overall size (dry ride) very well done interior, incredibly strong hull and preformance oreinted. After 4 year's of sitting in a warehouse it was pulled out fired up and everything ran like a charm, the gel buffed out like new and it ride's a chop like a 22' boat

Then there's customer service, it's second to none, during it's stay in the warehouse it had been sealed and wrapped in plastic, when exposed to the real enviroment the seating turned a light pink due to mold they say. Anyway they warrantied the vinyl after seeing what had happened to it, no brain damage @ all.

When i walked in the dealership i had no notion of the name WellCraft, today i will never forget it in term's of boating....
