I have the chance to buy a sea ray 185 (2012). My only concern is that the boat sat in water for two years and the owner had the bottom painted. He used a hard type paint as opposed to ablative. Am I right to be concerned? Will the boat have the same gel-coat shiny finish? Is something that will have to be maintained over time? I'm not the most experienced boater and I'm just looking for possible red flags.

not knowing what it was painted with, would be hard to tell you about the finish

if it was painted with Axalta (Dupont Imron), it can be buffed to a high luster

if it was painted with bottom paint who knows what brand?

I have no idea as to brand. He just said a hard paint. I plan on keeping the boat out of the water, however. Not sure if this boat is the best match for me??

fresh water or salted? Once a boat is bottom painted, the shiny surface days are pretty much over. If the boat stayed in the water for a couple of years, I'd be checking the the engine/outdrive (assuming I/O) more than the hull.
