I am going to be a first time boat owner and really like the sea ray 185. If anyone has any experience with this boat please respond. I'm looking to buy a used one between 1992-1997. Any help will be appreciated.

Jetster :)

Re: sea ray 185 br

Jetster,
I thought the 185 was new this year. At least, that is what the advertising hype was touting when I bought my boat. We looked CLOSELY at one ourselves. We ended up with a new, (had not sold the previous year), 2000 model 190 because it had a 5.0L 230 HP EFI for the same price as the 185.
I have owned a 160 and currently own the previously mentioned 190, and I have not been dissappointed with a thing. My only suggestion is that you go for the V-6 over the inline 4. The 4 cylinder is rated at maybe 130 HP and really isn't enough power for a all around family boat IMHO. I hope you have a GREAT boating season, Bill

I bought a 97 185BR last season. Mine has the 4.3 in it, which I would definitely recommend. So far I've been pleased. It trailers easily and seems to be a solid boat.

Re: sea ray 185 br

I purchased a 1999 185 Dual Console with a Mercury 115 outboard this past November. Have put 18 hours on her already. This is the fish and ski package with the livewell on the transom between two built in seats. I really like the boat so far. It didn't come with the platform on the bow between seats or the trolling motor. The new boats didn't come with the rails up front or a livewell. So when I found this one, I jumped on it. I have two small kids that love to sit up front, hang on to the rails and feel like they own it. Hope you all enjoy your boat as much as I do.

I have a 1996 190 and it's a great boat. I think it is similar to the 18.5. The previous owner is a Sea Ray mechanic and he swapped out the 4.3 for a 350 mag 250 php. As you can imagine this baby runs well. I put Smart Tabs on the boat myself to help with bow rise and the work wonderfully.

Paul in Muskegon, MI
