I sold my boat in April and now the purchaser told me that there was no oil in the lower unit that caused the lower and upper unit to go. My last maintance on the boat was an oil change, water pump, zincs etc last year... Besides if he hit anything how could of there not been any oil in the lower unit. Does the boat burn this oil like engine oil?

From the Searay thing I might assume that this is a mercriuser but Searay also used OMC COBRA in the mid 80s. I have seen many shade tree mechs underfill those gearcases because of the extra plug on the side of the lower and the dipstick on top.Generally this will pancake the upper gears but leave the lowers alone cause it dont last to long.
