I've bought a 2002 170cc and I'm wondering if it's safe to put pump gas with 10% ethanol in the tank? Does anybody know what the tank is made out of? I've heard that if the tank is fiberglas then the ethanol will attack the tank and ruin it.

Thanks,

Eric

I have a 2002 180CC and I believe it has a plastic type tank but I cannot confirm this with Seapro since all their phone lines are disconnected. As for the ethanol, if you can avoid it do it, if not there are several marine additives that controls the effects of it on your engine. Fiberglass tanks will definitely deteriorate if you are using ethanol fuel even MTBE fuel will eventually deterior fiberglass. Funny I was searching out the same question you were about tank material.

Hi Eric,

I just found out that Seapro only uses aluminum and a plastic type tank in their boats and the dealer I talked to out of Alabama swears he has never had any problem with fuel tanks from Seapro. He did say however that Fiberglass will deteriorate with the new fuel. I guess we are safe for now!
