I have purchased a Sea King outboard motor and need to know first of all, what exactly I have acquired, and second, how to purchase parts, either new or used, for the motor. The following information should help with the first part of my question. I would be open to any suggestions as to the second part. Thanks in advance for your help.

Brand: Sea King
H.P. 5
Model: GG18736D
Serial: 26X862664
Year: ?????
Color: White lower unit, with orange and white motor cover

The motor is in good order. It is a rope start motor with an external fuel hook up. What I need is a new,(or used) set of ignition coils.

Re: Sea King Parts Search

Your motor is a 5hp built by the Gale devision of OMC. in 1961.
Parts from "similar styled" E/J motors will fit
Coils are readily available at E/J dealers
or NAPA auto parts.PT.number 18-5181 fits 1950-76
E/J motors.Bring a coil with you.
You should probably change the pump impeller too.
NAPA part number 18-3001 or 18-3202 kit should fit or a dealer should be able to help.Bring the old one to check.
Get yourself a service manual, again E/J manual should work.
Some NAPA branches dont have a clue about their 600 page marine products catalog but your
local main store should.

Spike:

Thanks for the information. It really helped. I ended up finding a used set of coils the next day. Installed them, and the motor fired right up. Not bad for sitting in an old man's garage for several years. Thanks again. Your service is very valuable.
