I have an old sea king 9.6 hp outboard and need to know where to look to find the year and mfg. info.

Looking at the motor from the rear, on the right hand side,approximately 9 inches from handle, on the underside of the motor housing you should find an I.D.plate.<br />If you have the old parts catalogue it is on page 2,items 19 and 20 on engine cover and support plate.<br />Samuel F. Brown

thanks, I found the model # and serial # but it does not give the mfg. The model # is VWB20909a-07x. Would you know anything about that.

Are you sure the model # is right? I show that Sea King didn't start making a 9.6 HP until 1970 and it had model # VWB27009A. Other posible years are:
1971
VWB27009
VWB27109A

1972
VWB27209

1973
VWB27409

Mfg. is Chrysler
