Sea Hunt Escape Vent Question - Water in Fuel

Hello,

I have a 2000 Sea Hunt Escape 200 and am dealing with an issue with water in the fuel. I am replacing the sender gasket soon to rule that out. I have a plastic Perko combination fill and vent, I have confirmed that the vent from the tank is connected to the vent on the fill unit. It functions normally as far as I know, no issues with the vent as the motor takes fuel fine etc. The fill works also, I can pump at full speed and when it gets full, some fuel comes out the vent hole.

I have tested the fill for leaks by putting paper towel in the fill tube right under the gasket and went at it with a hose. The paper was dry when I opened it up. Side question, how does the 'sealed' vent actually vent?

I have another thru-hull mushroom vent on the hull under the fill, and I can't see the inside as there's too much foam in the hull. It definitely gets wet when I'm running the boat - I shot water at it with the hose and water flowed back out. Does anyone know what this vent is for? I'm thinking of putting a clamshell on top of it just in case.

Thank you for any insight, it's much appreciated!

All the Fuel vents are different but typically they will allow air IN whenever a vacuum appears within the tank. They remain closed otherwise. See your Instructions.

The lower Hull-Through looks like it may be for your Bilge Pump, Live Wells or Cooler if you have any. What's inside in the general area?
A little incidental water entering is not a major issue. It should initially Loop UP, so what goes IN comes back OUT!

Thanks! I'm pretty confident water isn't getting in the tank through the fill/vent.

The lower thru-hull vent is still a mystery to me, the bilge pump outlet, livewell drain etc. are on the transom. I have a bow cooler but that drains on the starboard side, same with the anchor locker. There's nothing else in that part of the boat to my knowledge that drains, too bad I can't see it due to all the foam.

Blow in some air/smoke and have someone see where it comes out.

Also check the actual model number of your fill cap.
Some vent ONLY while filling when the Cap is open, and are sealed when closed and use another venting method.
They look identical from the outside. But yours appears to have the internals for the active vent.

In case anyone reads this, I poked around a bit and discovered that the mushroom vent/drain is actually a drain for my 'glovebox' which is insulated (I just never use it as a cooler).
