Sea-fire alarm on start up

Hi guys,

On my 97 27'Chap, the seafire alarm sounds off when in accessory position. I find it really annoying, and it startles my guests everytine I start the engine. Once on, it stops immediately. What's strange is I don't see other boats making this house when they turn ignition key.

Why does it do this? Is there a way to disable this start up alarm function?

Single screw 7.4 merc.

Thank you,
Steve

You sure it's the Sea-Fire alarm and not the Mercruiser alarm?
The Mercruiser alarm will do that on start up due to no oil pressure yet.

^^^Agree, it's the alarm sounding because there is no oil pressure. Older boats will do this unless there is a time delay relay like on higher end boats.

Newer EFI motors don't do this because of the motors computer. A time delay relay can be installed to give you a few seconds

our older boats (no Mercs) have no audible alarms (that works for us), when we put in a newer fuel pump couple years ago, it has its own alarm, which turns off when it senses sufficient fuel pressure - a guest has never asked why the system-check noise - but if one did, I'd tell 'em it's a good noise

our 1998 has the original seafire setup, never heard any startup alarms from it (and we think it still works)

oh, we put in a new depth gauge, it has an adjustable (depth) alarm
