My 1990 Sea Doo just "clicks" when you hit the starter. Battery seems fine & isn't that old. I use a Yuasa Smart Shot trickle charger to keep it up.

Prior to dying, my neighbor was having difficulty getting it started. We'd been running the ski for anout aI think we ran the starter longer than we should.

As an aside....we did run the starter kinda hard yesterday.:

Otherwise the boat ran well.

Update: Fuse ok, wiring in box over battery looks ok & is very clean. Also spun PTO freely & see pistons rising & falling as they should thru spark plug holes. Little resistance on the PTO when I hit start. Smells like I have a starter problem...:/

Re: Sea Doo GT - won't crank

that is the probable culprit, probably shot the brushes or got the armature hot

Re: Sea Doo GT - won't crank

Any idea what the cost might be?

Is this starter rebuildable?

Thanks,

Only a starter shop can tell if you can save it, there is a place for used ones www.jetkingparts.com or after mkt parts from sbt on the web and ebay usually has some for sale none are cheep

Re: Sea Doo GT - won't crank

Thanks for the word.

By the way, my Dad was suggesting the old car solonoid trick of using a screwdriver over both posts to see if to solonoid is bad. I gotta think thats a bit dangerous with all the fumes in the hull... But still, I wonder if the solonoid could be bad. Dont see a test for it in the manual. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks,

Re: Sea Doo GT - won't crank

it is possible, there should not be fumes in the hull, leave the seat off for a few min and jump the 2 terminals , see if the starter kicks in

Update - it runs!

Update - it runs!

Ordered a starter from Jetking. $250 and about 8 hours later, and she cranks just fine!

Gee, I got her running just in time to winterize her...

Thanks for the tip, Jeff! I'm sure I saved $600 on this job doing it myself. My local Bombardier shop's labor rate is over $100 an hour. I imagine the parts would have been more too!
